The Art of Easy Living
Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favourite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.
The city’s most recognisable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. The original Spanish mission, the first in California, has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighbourhoods.
The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbour seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.

If you're a smoker you may as well stay away from San Diego, the beaches were crowded and not a lot of places to sit. Everything is expensive. A few good points were there were a lot of restaurants, there was I believe a couple of amusement parks but we didn't attend those. Very friendly city, with lots of very good facilities. But things quite expensive. As with a lot of places visited worldwide, travellers arriving at airport get ripped off by taxi drivers taking them from airport to hotel. Rates ought to be clearly displayed so travellers can then make their choice.

We've visited before; this time we were in town for graduation at Point Loma Nazarene University, and enjoyed our stay. Love the Little Italy section of Dan Diego. The Saturday market is wonderful in the plaza. The historic boats on the bay and the waterfront walk is beautiful. It's a pleasant walk to Seaport Village. Our grand daughter loves the carousel. The whale watching tours and dinner cruises are out of the area by the Midway historic ship.AlanUnited States
