The flat is huge. It has so much space. And it is so nicely decorated. Easy to get to. Communications was great and the instructions were super clear. The bed was super comfy and the flat had black out blinds so we had an amazing sleep. Ash and Maggie were also super kind and allowed us to check in an hour early when our plans changed unexpectedly which we ready appreciated.

It was a great house with everything you needed. The bedrooms were very good and beds comfy and very handy having a smart TV to watch in the evenings with most streaming channels available.
In the coastal town of Workington, the friendly Waverley Hotel offers spacious rooms, a bar, Wi-Fi, free parking and good food. The Lake District is a short drive away.
Head as far west as you can and experience a side where rooms are super comfy and the food is as good as its people.

BEWARE - You may think you have booked the 4* Washington Central Hotel, only to find upon confirmation that you have actually booked into the Sleepwell Inn Annexe! Cleverly misleading advertising by the hotel can leave a sour taste! The Sleepwell Inn is across the road from the Washington Central and has absolutely no facilities within the building. So when your key card refuses to let you back into the building every time you exit then across the road you have to go - 4 times in 24 hours we made the trip. The night Porter even came over with us on one occasion stating that it was a regular thing that had been reported to Management but not fixed! The 'refurbished' rooms were definitely not 4* standard (even though the little sign on the outside clearly shows 4 stars - again, cleverly misleading advertising) they were at best hostel standard. After staying for 1 night I went over and asked the young girl on reception to cancel and refund the cost of the 2 rooms we had booked for 2 nights, stating that we would stay that night and check out the following morning! She didn't ask why (I assume she knew) and said the cancellation had been done! The next morning I went to check out and make sure that the cancellation and refund had been applied - this time I spoke to somebody that looked a little more important - I was told that that was the first time they had ever had a problem with the key card access (a clear lie as at one point there were a queue of people waiting at reception with the same issue) and was made to feel that it was my fault not theirs! I was also asked why I had not requested to be moved - again trying to put the blame onto me! Although in the next breath she informed me that they were fully booked, so even if the Night Porter had the authority to move us (which I am guessing would be way above his pay grade) he wouldn't have been able!

We liked the aquarium and we liked the café inside as it had a full gluten free menu. We would have stayed for the free crazy golf but the weather was a little cold. We plan to return next year in the spring/summer. The access to the shops etc was suitable. As on occasion my daughter needs to use a wheelchair.

Maryport has potential but, at present, has a rather run down ambience. Lots of litter in the streets, a nearly deserted downtown. But harbor area is fun with aquarium, mini golf, and good restaurants. Roman ruin site is of interest as well. But try to find a decent restaurant or establishment open downtown on a weekend and you'll b out of luck.

Mariners cottage is actually in Allonby just outside Maryport (where I have a boat). Maryport itself is small and laid back, sort of gently touristy with most typical small town facilities available but Workington is only a few minutes drive away for supermarkets and larger stores. Maryport has a rail station connecting to Barrow in one direction and Carlisle in the other but local transport is fairly sparse so driving is best on the relatively quiet roads. There are cycle paths and the land is overall fairly flat.

Maryport is very historic and interesting.
Maryport is very historic and interesting. The harbour is great to walk around and the Roman Museum was interesting. However, the Maritime Museum appears to be permanently closed although still advertised as open. The Golden Lion Hotel is a great place to eat - food and staff are wonderful. Albeit the people who live there are super friendly and nice, it seems to need a lot of TLC. I have never seen so many hairdressers in one small place and nobody seemed to use them. Everything seemed tired and depressing as though nobody cares what the place looks like. And there weren’t any gift shops. It’s a shame as it could be so nice for tourists - and I have never seen so much dog Pooh!! I had to keep my eyes to the floor to make sure I didn’t stand in it! Nice place for a weekend though.

Maryport was nice quiet place we had been there before and went to the aquarium which was so informative. So we spent our day in Whitehaven lovely place nice harbour to walk around and we were able to let our dog have a run around on the beach. One problem did not find any public toilets. I was able to go in the museum.we asked a parking attendant if there were any he said no just go in the pub .
It had everything we needed and in a quiet location with a lovely walk to the beach and Allonby, my 9 year old daughter loved it there and so did the dogs watching the birds feed on the table in front of the window. Aquarium at Maryport definitely worth a visit and their 14 hole golf course and play area included in the price. The owner Adrian was great and came out to sort a small problem with the heating. The break was just what we needed away from our busy lives.
The property was really well equipped with everything you could want and even had all of the basics stocked. The location is great for Maryport, right in the centre and a nice walk down to the promenade. Parking can be a bit tricky on the road but Mill Street car park is easy and on a few minutes walk away. Supermarkets all located near here too. Simon was an excellent host and sorted things out and provided lots of great local information.
Great location on the sea front, miles of safe paths for walks and perfect for dog walkers or cyclists. The cottage is small but a perfect size for a couple, perfectly clean and with a well equipped kitchen with just about everything you would need for a stay. Parking is right in front and it is a great base to explore the Cumbrian coastline, the lake district of course is also close by.
We cycled to the hotel. The staff were very friendly & accommodated us with our bikes. The room was clean & a decent size for what we needed. Breakfast was ok but didn't really accommodate vegetarians. All in all would use again if in the area as the price was cheap & it suited our needs for one night!
Very nice breakfast, served quickly, helpful staff willing to make menu adjustments for a small child. Our son had a fall whilst we were staying in Maryport and the staff were very caring and advised us on the nearest hospital.
Perfect apartment, located in the heart of Maryport. Very close to all amenities.
Very comfortable and everything is provided for your stay. Highly recommended and I plan to return again.
Spacious living room, powerful shower, thoughtful additions to make it feel homely, loved the folder with information. Would stay again on our way to Scotland!
