Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and funicular railways. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of visitable tunnels and even a Graeco-Roman theatre which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artefacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodation, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city centre apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.

Only stayed here one night as part of a multi location family trip - myself, husband and daughters (age 17 and 12). Visited spaccanapoli - thoroughly enjoyed it. Naples had so much more to offer than I could fit in 1-day. Wished stay had been longer. Only downside was I found crossing the roads stressful.

Naples is dirty, full of graffiti, and did not feel overly safe. We only stayed one night, as had to catch a flight out the next morning. We were wrapping up our trip to Italy. Naples is not a destination city. I suggest spending as little time, as possible, there.

There is so much to do in and around Naples.
There is so much to do in and around Naples. Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum, Pozzuoli, Capri, Royal Palace, Archaeological Museum, Castle Sant'Elmo, Certosa San Martino, shops. Transport system is great and inexpensive. Some people seem to think it's a bit scary but it absolutely isn't. Everyone mega-friendly.

A city full of history, culture and kind people.
A city full of history, culture and kind people. The Churches are beautiful, most if the buildings are amazing and Restaurants serve good food (yet not that diversified as you might expect.) Unfortunately, Naples is not that safe or clean. Trash is almost everywhere, even though trash cans exist in all parts of the city. Old clothes, cigarettes and cans are everywhere on the sidewalks and streets, except some parts of the Historical centre which are very clean. Stealing is something normal for many and unfortunately the police is not that responsive to the tourists’ complains about stolen things. I have many friend whose phones, AirPods and different devices were stolen. If you pay good attention to your personal objects, nothing bad will happen. Also, the public transport (except the Metro and Train) is barely usable. Buses come rarely in their stations and most of the time are crowded. We have waited for more than 2h for a bus near the Piazza del Plebiscito — in the very centre of Naples. So please pay attention to this aspect also in choosing to visit Napoli.
Naples is worth a visit if you want to see the real beauty of the Neapolitan culture — the beautiful language, grest culture and amazing foods. For sure (with a good dose of attention), Naples is worth a visit.

We had a great trip and for us 3 days was just right.
We had a great trip and for us 3 days was just right. We visited Pompeii, hiked Vesuvius, caught a ferry for lunch in Provida, and the Metro to the football stadium. There is loads more to do if you stay longer. The city was not expensive to eat out, food of course exceptional and people really friendly. It felt like old Italy more than other places we've been. Less English spoken, more authentic, very busy during the day (insane traffic), not so much at night. We walked mainly, the Metro is also cheap and easy to use.

Naples is kind of unique.
Naples is kind of unique. Its kind of a bit mad, kind of a bit run down, but it has this infectious, exuberant vibe. The Neapolitans themselves are just fantastic - genuinely friendly and kind. They are SO proud of their city. Naples claims to have the best coffee in Italy, and its probably true. It's also the pizza capital of Italy - the birthplace of the margarita pizza - but also has great for pasta and seafood. After dark in Naples is party time, and it seems that every night is party night!
The traffic is total madness, and people on scooters appear out of nowhere, even in pedestrian areas. But other than that, we felt very safe in the city.
This is a great place to stay if you want to visit Pompeii or Herculaneum. Both are just a short train ride away, which can get you there long before the crowds. The public transport, its good, cheap and safe.
Herculaneum - Pompeii's less well-known cousin - was a highlight for us. We visited in late May, at around 11am, and there were no crowds, just a few parties of enthusiastic history lovers and some school groups.
This was my favorite property on my 10-days visit in Italy, too bad I only visited Naples for a day.
It didn't disappoint as I already knew I was gonna like the property itself because of location, facade and the upper terrace. Everything is photographed as expected. But what's magical about it was the overall experience provided by the hosts (Nico and Anna) and their angel, Patrizia. I got the opportunity to be welcomed well, the Napoli way ❤️
I'll come back next year and will definitely stay in touch with them.
Everything! Our son just happened to stubble on this hotel for our last night in Italy after his brothers wedding on Amalfi Coast! Absolutely incredible in everyway! It was the first time in 10 days I had really lush fluffy pillows and we stayed in very nice hotels. The roof top bar was so nice and they even give you a ticket for free Presecco or Beer. The area was clean and safe unlike the hotel we stayed at when we arrived in Naples. I will tell my travel agent about your hospitality and affordable rate.
The room was easy enough to find, look for a small blue sign on the gate post outside where they will meet you on arrival. A short walk to lots of great restaurants and bars, along with amazing shopping.
The breakfast in Italy consists of croissant and coffee - so don’t be expecting anything savoury. This hotel uses a local bar 200 meters away which you take a token to for complimentary coffee and croissant. Tip - just sit down outside they will serve you - show them the voucher when you arrive.
Boutique and beautifully appointed hotel. A real
treasure in the heart of Napoli. Walking distance to most sights and with easy access to the metro. Marco and his team are very friendly and helpful. Marco tried to find us a driver on a day when there was a Taxi strike in Italy. The room service breakfast is also really nice and the air conditioning works really well. Don’t forget to eat at pizza at Port’Alba pizzeria & have a coffee at Mexico and Posia. You won’t regret booking here.
We spent 2 nights in Il Tesoro and we have to admit that it was the best hotel we stayed at in Italy. It was clean, well-equipped, very beautiful and stylish! We could choose what to eat for breakfast and it was served in the room in the morning. The hotel is absolutely well located, close to the city center. The stuff is amazing, Lorenzo and Massimo was very helpful and nice. If you are looking for the best place to stay in Naples, do not hesitate, just book a room here!
Room was very clean and spacious. Bed was very comfortable. Great shower! Mariano, owner of B&B, was above and beyond accommodating. Gave us explicit directions/guidance to us for our walking around the area locating restaurants. Provided our breakfast at our very early departure. Also, rather than dealing with taxi transportation, Mariano transported us from and to Naples airport.
I would definitely recommend staying at Elegance B&B Naples Italy.
Location was perfect as close to the port, historical area. We walked to Naples Architectural Museum from here too (15 minutes). Only a 15 minute walk to Garibaldi train station (trains to all over Italy). We Picked Up the Sorrento train to take us to Pompeii.
Staff were super helpful with any questions we had or any requests. Breakfast was at a local cafe opposite the apartment building. Lovely room,
Recently refurbished and very quiet.
Nice hotel to spent some time in Naples a little bit like a local. It's situated in a good neiborhood, on an authentic street. You must open few doors to get into your room and there are apartments of the locals around. The room was big and nice. And the view from the terrace was extraordinary.
Breakfast is typical for Italy, coffee and croissant. It's tasty and situated in Pasticceria near by. You can feel the real vibe of the city here.
Mother and Son accommodation and both so friendly. We managed to converse well despite our lack of Italian. The breakfast was lovely, your order the night before and they deliver to your room. Excellent location and not too noisy. We had a private bathroom which was nice and they provided lots of shampoo/shower gel. Much nicer than most of the hotels we have stayed in in Italy and paid 3 times the price for. Highly recommend.
It is a very good location, close to the central station and close to delicious restaurants. And it was the cleanest accommodation during my trip to Italy. The breakfast served in the morning so I can eat comfortably in my room. The staff was also very kind. Thanks to the staff here, Naples is better to me. I definitely want to come back to Naples, and if I come again, I want to stay at this hotel.
This is a superb place. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were friendly and very attentive to every need. Gorgeous decor, very comfortable room and bed and spectacular bathroom. Cool and relaxing place to return to after sightseeing. Highly recommend, the nicest place we've stayed in Italy. Like a five star hotel, the staff are awesome! Thank you for all your kindness.
Among the best hotel included breakfast in Italy … bacon , eggs, ham, multple pastries , coofee, juice, frit salad etc.
Clean and very comfortable rooms. From 3rd floor nice view of traine lines (metro line 2, 300 meters away( grocery shopping 150 meters away and fantastic seea food (Kemar) in frontof hotel. Extremely large Japanese restaurant next door.
This was probably one of our favourite stays in Italy because of how spacious and clean it was. Sarah was very kind and responsive and it also helps that the resort was 15 minutes away from Naples Centrale/Garabaldi (a straight line walk from the station too). I highly recommend staying here if you're planning on going to Naples.
The hotel was exceptionally clean, and the amenities were great! I was very pleased with the room. Truly was the best shower we were able to take while staying across Italy for 2 weeks! We really enjoyed our stay with this hotel and appreciated the privacy provided by the enclosed entrance and hotel.
Second time at this B&B. Still this is one of our favorite places in Italy. Anastasia was as always helpul and so nice. If you are going to Naples you should choose this place.
This time we had a car with us and the recommended parking lot by Anastasia, was nearby and everything was ok.
We have never stayed at a property that was not a traditional hotel - although not exactly a bed and breakfast - the exact location took us by surprise - perhaps common for Naples/Italy/ The photos of course do not depict what you will find upon arrival - basically located in an alley
beautiful hotel, the best of all our stays in Italy. lovely sized rooms, exceptionally clean and tidy every where. helpful welcoming staff. good breakfast. great location for travel , right next to busy train station, yet our room was so quiet (thanks to brilliant double glazing)
Breakfast was excellent - best croissants we've had so far in Italy. Mozzarella balls were also excellent. Short walk to/from main train station, so very very easy to get around. Room was huge and comfortable. Really gorgeous - would recommend for anyone staying in Naples.
Perfectly located hotel, just a short 3 min walk away from the heart of Naples, with really well equipped and decorated rooms. It was the best place to finish off our honeymoon in Italy. The breakfast was topnotch and the service even better.
